The Malaysian Association of Clinical Biochemists (MACB) is proud to announce the Young Scientist Award (YSA) 2026 — a dedicated recognition programme for emerging professionals in Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine. As part of the 36th MACB Annual Conference 2026, the YSA offers young scientists and clinicians a prestigious platform to showcase their research and innovation.
About the Award
The MACB YSA recognises outstanding contributions from early-career professionals across two categories:
Group A: Research Excellence
For novel scientific work advancing academic knowledge in Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine:
- Original basic research
- Biomarker discovery
- Methodological development
- Hypothesis-driven experimental trials
Group B: Clinical & Operational Innovation
For practical laboratory innovations that improve patient care, workflow efficiency, and service quality:
- Quality improvement initiatives
- Workflow optimisation
- Service enhancement and LIS adoption
- Technical troubleshooting with measurable outcomes

Eligibility Criteria
- Must be under 40 years old as of 14 July 2026.
- Must be the first author and presenting author of the submitted abstract.
- An endorsement from your institution of employment is required.
- Only one full paper submission is permitted per applicant per YSA category.
- The submitted paper must not have previously won any local or international award.
- Any fraud or suspicion of misconduct may result in disqualification.
What to Submit
- Application Profile: Personal details, academic qualifications, and institutional endorsement details.
- Abstract: Up to 250 words in English, clearly presenting the scientific or innovation impact of your work.
- Single Upload File: One DOC/DOCX file (maximum 4MB) containing both your abstract and applicant CV in a single integrated document.
After acceptance, successful applicants must submit a presentation deck and their full paper to the MACB Journal at journal.macb.org.my.
Prizes & Incentives
A total of six (6) winners will be selected (typically three from each category). Winners receive:
- Travel support: Reimbursement of travel expenses and a 2-night hotel stay, up to MYR 2,000 (receipts required).
- Complimentary registration to attend the 36th MACB Annual Conference 2026.
- Official certificate of award and public recognition from MACB.
Conditions to receive the prize: Winners must deliver an oral presentation during the designated session and submit their full paper for publication in the MACB Journal of Clinical Biochemists (MJCB) at journal.macb.org.my.
Selection Process
Applications are managed and reviewed by the MACB Awards Subcommittee. The judging panel includes independent representatives from the health industry, corporate sector, education, research, and laboratory medicine. Shortlisted nominees are ranked before final council notification. The judges’ verdict is final.
Application Requirements
- All applications must be submitted electronically via the official submission link — no exceptions.
- Applicant details must be completed fully and accurately.
- Abstract must highlight added value / R&D in Clinical Chemistry & Laboratory Medicine.
- Paper must be written and presented in English.
- Use only the abstract template provided during submission.
- Institutional endorsement from applicant’s workplace is mandatory.
- Each applicant is permitted only one full paper submission.
- Official photos of award recipients may be used by MACB for promotional purposes.
- Winners outside Malaysia must provide a copy of their passport (first page) for identification.
