Patient-based quality control is a laboratory practice that harnesses the data generated from routine testing of patient samples to monitor the analytical performance of the measurement procedure. This can be achieved by applying statistical algorithms to seeks to minimise the biological variation in the patient results to detect changes in analytical performance. This workshop focuses on the practical discussion of key concepts of patient-based QC, how to select the parameters, undertake performance verification of the patient-based quality control algorithm and how to apply it in routine practice. This workshop will also have a hands-on session with an Excel tool with real-world data and plenty of opportunity to discuss areas of uncertainty or interest with the speakers.
